We want better heroes for Britain - GET HIM DOWN NOW!
We are calling on the support of decision makers to say enough is enough.
As part of the legacy & heritage work of the Windrush, seeing statues like Milligan are a painful reminder of what our own ancestors had to go through for Britain to thrive.
Milligan was a key enabler & profiteer of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade by orchestrating & building West India Docks. The docks were for the specific import & export of Slave laboured goods from Milligan's very own plantation where he forced enslaved African Men, Women & Children to work for free under the constant distress of torture, all for the production of his Sugar, Rum & also Coffee. These docks were used by him & his cohort of business friends to further their interests in the business of Slavery across the Caribbean through to Britain.
When Milligan died in 1809, his West India Docks company erected this statue in his honour, which now stands in front of what is currently the Museum of London Docklands
His statue stands proudly as a larger than life commemorative figure despite his wealth & business being entirely a result of the gains of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. This is a blatant dishonour to the many generations of Caribbean's whose families were ripped from Africa, brutally tortured & forced through enslavement to work for Milligan to further his legacy, prosper his business interests & bring value to Britain.
We want better heroes for Britain NOW so get him down!!

More Background Information & Links:
The East London docks are not the only symbol of this time. Throughout Docklands there are a variety of commemorations to key people involved in profiting from the Slave Trade, these are hidden in street names & statues who all heavily profited from the evil of slavery.
