The Issue

The proposed casino development on the golf course in the Bronx stands to fundamentally alter our community, exacerbating a myriad of issues for the residents who call this area home. Situated on land that has been long sought to be repurposed for more beneficial and needed community initiatives, this casino does not represent progress for our neighborhoods.

Firstly, it's crucial to highlight that the construction of this casino will lead to the displacement of current jobs and the potential for greater economic instability. The very foundation of our community is built upon small businesses, local workers, and family-owned enterprises. Introducing a major corporate entity into the fabric of our society threatens to put many of these people out of work. It is estimated that across the United States, communities have witnessed a downturn in small business profits when large casinos settle in their areas.

Furthermore, the construction will inevitably cause disruption and a reduction in essential infrastructure amenities such as parking, and access routes, complicating the daily lives of Bronx residents. The people of the Bronx deserve enhancements that enrich the fabric of the community rather than detract from it.

Additionally, replacing the golf course with a casino overlooks the potential to repurpose that land for solutions to more urgent community needs. With a significant portion of our neighborhoods being minority communities, the empowerment and growth of these areas are reliant on supporting inclusive and community-driven ventures. We must advocate for developments that provide sustainable housing, open public spaces, or community centers instead of gambling facilities that bring more harm than good.

We, as the Bronx community, urge decision-makers to reconsider this plan and explore options that align with the needs and desires of its residents. Let us together prevent the further commercialization that diminishes our living environment and instead invest in developments that foster community growth and stability.

Sign this petition to stand against the casino development and for a future that puts the needs of Bronx residents first.
