A recent review of the Qld's Compulsory Third Party ('CTP') insurance scheme including input from the Qld state government has determined that CTP premiums for single rider registered motorcycles without pillion will increase by over 67% from the 30th June 2023, whereas CTP insurance for rider and pillion registered motorcycles will increase by only 1.5%. 

CTP insurance for single rider registered motorcycles only requires cover of the rider in most cases.

Motorcycles are one of Qld's most sustainable transport options. A motorcycle produces up to 70% less carbon emissions than a passenger vehicle with a single occupant and cause less damage to the roads.  Motorcycles take up less parking space and decrease congestion.

Most single rider registered motorcycles in Qld are used for commuting to a place of work. An increase in the cost of operating single user motorcycles is likely to increase use of motor vehicles for similar journeys. 

Such an increase is unjustified and damaging to Qld's economy and the move towards a more greener state.
