The Issue

The Trash Titanic (Ghazipur dumpyard) is around 1600 feet (507 metres) long and 182 feet (55 metres) wide. Her total height is 184 feet (56 metres) making the Trash Titanic twice the size of the original RMS Titanic.

1.2 million tons of landfill trash has been dumped and burnt here. Over 100 trucks and 30 loaders in three shifts are dumping trash everyday. The trash is being burnt everyday, yes, every day, for at least the last 10 years.

All this while, the fire was being kept burning at a small scale, hence scaping the attention of the media. The burning trash was being hidden by adding more layers of trash above. The authorities claim that they are producing electricity out of this trash, which is a complete bullshit.

Official claims say that close to 1.3 million (13 lakh) tonnes of waste has been thrown in the landfill since 1984.
Environmentalists claim that around 5 million (50 lakh) tonnes of garbage has been dumped in the 27 acre site, making it a 50-metre-high garbage hill.

The smoke from such 'Titanics' are poisoning our air. On top of that, the liquid waste from the landfill is left untreated.

And here we are all seeing the impact of our negligence and treating our environment with the utmost shit that we can contribute.

Join us and sign the petition to government authorities to 'STOP BURNING THE GHAZIPUR TRASH TITANIC'. Act now.
