As a concerned rate payer in Bundaberg, I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with the proposed rate increases for rental properties, RV lifestyle parks, and Airbnb. The Bundaberg Council has proposed to charge 140% of the general rate of an owner-occupied home, non-Principal Place of Residence (rental properties), 80% for RV lifestyle parks, and 100% for Airbnb. These proposed changes are alarming and unfairly target property owners who are already under financial strain.


This unjustifiable rate hike will have severe repercussions on the availability and affordability of rental properties in Bundaberg. The consequences are clear: landlords will be forced to increase rents or consider selling their properties, which will inevitably lead to fewer rental homes available for those in need. The increase in rates significantly raises the cost of maintaining rental properties, and property owners will have no choice but to pass on these additional costs to tenants.

Bundaberg residents should not have to bear the burden of this inequitable proposal, as all properties, regardless of rental status, receive the same services as their neighbors. The decision to disproportionately increase rates on rental properties, RV lifestyle parks, and Airbnb is not only unfair but potentially illegal.

The economic impact of this rate increase could be catastrophic. In the current economic climate, where many individuals and families are struggling to make ends meet, such a drastic rise in rental costs will only exacerbate the housing crisis.
