Stop Bullying Against LGBTQ+ Youth in Schools and Online

The Issue

As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I have personally experienced the harsh reality of bullying. This isn't just my story, but the story of countless other children and teenagers across our nation who identify as LGBTQ+. They face discrimination not only within school walls but also online. This form of bullying is widespread and affects children from elementary to high school.

According to a survey by GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network), 70.1% of LGBTQ+ students reported being verbally harassed at school over their sexual orientation (GLSEN National School Climate Survey, 2019). In addition to this alarming statistic, The Trevor Project's National Survey on LGBTQ Youth Mental Health 2020 revealed that 40% of respondents considered attempting suicide in the past twelve months, with more than half being transgender or nonbinary youth.

The impact is clear - we need urgent action against such harmful behavior that targets our young people based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. It's time for schools nationwide to adopt comprehensive anti-bullying policies that protect all students regardless of their identity.

We call upon educators, parents, policy makers and fellow citizens to stand against this injustice. Let us create an environment where every child can learn without fear and grow into confident adults who are proud of who they are. Please sign this petition today; let's stop bullying against LGBTQ+ youth in schools and online.
