The issue

As a resident who experiences power outages consistently, I witness firsthand the repercussions of new housing developments being prioritized over the fundamental needs of existing communities. It's incredibly frustrating to have our lives disrupted regularly, especially in an area that should be thriving. My neighbours and I deserve a basic standard of living that includes a reliable power supply, a standard that's often compromised.

The issue here is not about halting growth. On the contrary, development can and should be a positive force. However, it must not come at the expense of the current residents. Frequent power outages pose severe consequences, affecting everything from our daily routines to safety and economic stability. Imagine working from home without a steady supply of electricity, or having crucial appliances fail at the most inconvenient times. These disruptions could have dire consequences, especially for those who depend on electricity for medical purposes. In almost every storm or hot day, the power outages occur. There appears to not be a adequate grid to service the population of Oakville and surrounding suburbs and as more developments progress, little work is being completed in upgrading the power grids

We need local councils and planners to halt approving any new developments until they can assure us that adequate and dependable energy solutions are in place for everyone. This includes enhancing existing power grids, investing in sustainable energy sources, and ensuring regular maintenance. Allocating resources to address these issues will not only serve the present population but also support future growth in a sustainable manner.

Our community loves where we live, but it's challenging to maintain that enthusiasm if we must constantly worry about power outages. We need a commitment from our council officials that they prioritise the infrastructure that supports our everyday life. Ensuring a stable power supply must be addressed before further expansion.

Please sign this petition to urge our local government to prioritise reliable power infrastructure for existing residents before approving new housing developments. Together, we can ensure a future that’s bright – not just with new homes, but with consistent electricity for all.
