The Issue

In the heart of King Farm, our cherished green spaces and vibrant community garden face imminent threat due to the proposed development of more parking spaces on King Farm Farmstead. We, the residents, take immense pride in our community's natural beauty and communal areas, finding solace and unity in our shared garden. The decision to build unnecessary parking infrastructure endangers these treasured assets, disrupting the tranquility and communal spirit that define our neighborhood.

We firmly believe that there is no justifiable need for additional parking on the King Farm Farmstead. Along Ridgemont Avenue and Grand Champion, ample street parking is already available, in addition to the two proposed lots in front of the farmhouse. These suffice for any foreseeable demand, eliminating the need to encroach upon our green spaces.

Moreover, the plan to construct a connecting road between Grand Champion Drive and Frederick Road not only threatens our community garden but also disregards the unique character of King Farm. Such developments risk transforming our quiet, community-centered area into one of increased traffic congestion and diminished natural beauty.

Our garden does not only offer a place for recreation and relaxation but are central to our community's identity. They enable educational opportunities, foster mental well-being, and strengthen the bonds between residents who come together to plant, nurture, and harvest.

We urge city planners and decision-makers to reconsider and halt these developments in favor of preserving the King Farm Farmstead's integrity and our community's needs. Let's prioritize sustainability and community over unnecessary infrastructural changes. Your voice matters. Sign the petition to protect King Farm's green spaces and community garden from unnecessary development.

In addition to signing this petition, we urge residents to voice their opinions by emailing the Mayor and Councilmembers directly at mayorcouncil@rockvillmd.gov before they vote on this on October 20.
