Stop building housing estates in Llanilar. We say ‘no’ to the Tanrallt development!
The Issue
Our beloved village of Llanilar is being overrun by relentless housing developments that threaten to erode the fabric of our community. As a resident, I am deeply concerned about the proposal to build 33 new dwellings next to Tanrallt Farm, scheduled for review by Ceredigion County Council’s planning department. This development will only add to the recent surge in constructions at Y Gorlan and Dol Y Meillion, alongside the 71 houses proposed for the land behind the garage.
The implications of these developments are far-reaching and deeply concerning for our community in Ceredigion. Firstly, it flagrantly breaches the Ceredigion County Council's own housing policy. The stipulated housing requirement for our village has already been surpassed and continuing in this direction threatens our local governance’s credibility and commitment to their policies.
Furthermore, these developments would dramatically increase traffic in our village, presenting not only a logistical nightmare but also a safety hazard for our pedestrians and cyclists. The increased pollution from the expected traffic surge will also lead to environmental and health challenges as we face deteriorating air quality.
One of the most cherished aspects of Llanilar is our tight-knit community and our rich Welsh cultural heritage, including our language. The influx of new residents in such a short amount of time risks diluting this heritage and undermining community cohesion. It is important to remember that these developments are not just about buildings; they impact identities, traditions, and community spirit that have been nurtured over generations.
Moreover, the proposed site poses a significant threat to our local ecology. The natural habitats of local wildlife would be irreparably damaged, leading to a loss of biodiversity in our area. The ecological balance that we have cherished and cared for is at risk of being permanently altered.
We must stand together as a community to protect our way of life. I urge Ceredigion County Council to reject these plans, respecting their own policies and prioritising the sustainable and harmonious development of Llanilar. Please join me in safeguarding the future of our village by signing this petition.
