The Issue

I am the President of the Oregon City Police Employees Association and have witnessed firsthand the challenges our dedicated officers face daily. Oregon City, a community that continues to grow and thrive, deserves a properly funded police department that can effectively ensure the safety and security of all its residents. Unfortunately, the current funding levels are inadequate to meet the increasing demands placed on our officers.

Our police department is experiencing significant staffing shortages, resulting in overworked officers stretched thin across multiple shifts. This not only affects response times but also the overall effectiveness of law enforcement in our community. Additionally, the absence of enough code enforcement officers undermines our ability to efficiently handle non-criminal issues and maintain order in our city.

Studies have consistently shown that increased police presence and better community enforcement lead to lower crime rates and enhanced quality of life. According to the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting, cities with adequately staffed police departments witness a 20% decrease in crime on average. Oregon City should be no exception.

We urgently need the local government to increase funding for the Oregon City Police Department to hire additional officers and code enforcement personnel. This measure is not just an investment in our police force; it is an investment in the safety, security, and future of Oregon City.

Join me in advocating for our officers who tirelessly serve this community. Help us ensure a safe and thriving Oregon City by signing this petition to increase the funding for our police department. Your support can make a tangible difference in strengthening our community's safety and resilience. Sign today to support a stronger Oregon City Police Department.
