Stop Brisbane city council from implementing a paper bill fine

The issue

Brisbane City Council is trying to force us to switch from paper bills to online by January 1st 2025 or we will have to pay a $1.98 fine per paper bill. The Brisbane public was not consulted on this, and it is another clear example of politicians screwing over the general public under the mask of saving the environment. Once again, pushing the responsibility onto the average households rather than big corporations. It also opens us up to potential security breaches which is a valid concern based on the previous data breaches (e.g. Optus, Medibank).

This legislation also puts a barrier for older and poorer people who can't use or afford computers and other types of technology to access their bills. Additionally, the bills could easily get confused as spam and get lost in the junk mail folder of emails.

Furthermore, more populated Australian cities, such as Melbourne and Sydney still offer paper bills free of charge.

Please sign this petition to get Brisbane City Council to veto this AWFUL legislation.
