This petition is being raised on behalf of the residents who live in Bridge Court. A remarkable 1930s Art Deco block of flats, it has always stood out as a testament to the ward's architectural history and community spirit. Recently, freeholders Triplerose have set their sights on constructing luxury penthouse flats atop this beloved building. This move does not align with the community's needs or priorities. Importantly, the local planning authority has already denied the application due to similar community concerns, yet the freeholders are appealing the decision.

The proposed development will do nothing to alleviate the pressing housing crisis in our ward. Luxury penthouses directly contradict the urgent need for affordable housing in the ward. Furthermore, the block infrastructure won't support the increased density, leading to potential problems such as overcrowding and a strain on services.

Bridge Court’s unique Art Deco design is cherished by residents and visitors alike. Altering its skyline with modern penthouses will irrevocably damage its historic charm and architectural integrity. This is not just about preserving our building, but about maintaining the unique character and history of our neighbourhood.

We've seen the negative impacts similar developments have brought to other areas, with increased property prices driving out original residents and small local businesses. We cannot let this happen to us.
