Stop Blue Valley Schools from using Amplify Curriculum for ELA

The Issue

Blue Valley Schools currently employ the Amplify Curriculum for English Language Arts (ELA) teaching. Unfortunately, this system fails to meet the desired benchmarks of academic excellence, hampers student curiosity, and negatively impacts their engagement with learning. The current state of discontent among students is substantial, where they admit not learning anything substantial and lack daily consistent interactions with their teachers. It makes it nearly impossible for students to want to learn and like the topics.

Amplify Curriculum falls short of creating an integrated learning experience that engages students and teachers in the classroom setting. According to a study conducted by the Brookings Institution, consistent active learning increases student performance in almost all subjects (Freeman et al., 2014). By replacing Amplify with a more interactive and engaging teaching system, we can raise the bar, thereby cultivating a nurturing and interactive academic environment for students.

This issue lies not just with the quality of education offered to children, but also with their future academic and professional success. High-quality language arts instruction is critical for students' cultural literacy, reading skills, and overall academic success (RAND Corporation, 2002). Basic writing skills are very important for students especially in middle school years, because it builds up towards high school and even college.

There are so many parents, teachers, and students who are unsatisfied with Amplify's techniques. We urge residents of Kansas City, MO — especially parents, educational staff, and anyone invested in the future of our community's education — to join us in urging Blue Valley Schools to reconsider the use of Amplify Curriculum for ELA teaching. By signing this petition, you are advocating for a more engaging, interactive, and effective learning environment for students. Let's aim higher for the future of children's education.
