We have finally reached over 300 supporters and I am thankful for everyone who continues to support me by signing and sharing! I just wanted to take a moment to let you know that I must’ve obviously struck a nerve, because a racist posted a deepfake video of Gordon Ramsay using racial epithets on my petition page. I only noticed it because I clicked on the link that I’ve been pasting in the comments. The time and effort spent by a deranged white supremacist will not cause me to let up in my mission to make this issue known and engage people in meaningful conversations on how to stop marginalizing Black voices on social media spaces.
The perpetrator of this hateful video is so cowardly that he has to employ technology instead of his or her own voice to try and bring me down. We know Gordon Ramsay would never say such a thing and I only wish that Change.org would monitor its site for the presence of hateful videos and not rely on the petition’s creator to report them.
I know that this offense is NOTHING compared to what innocent civilians are experiencing in Gaza and I could’ve had more peace of mind had I chosen to keep quiet about what was happening there. But in the spirit of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, "In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends”. More than the racist person who posted the video, what disturbs me is the unwillingness of people I have been on friendly terms with, people who have known me and my story and yet are unwilling to sign this petition.
I hope you all have a good weekend and honor MLK by fighting injustice in whatever way you can. Thank you!
