The photo above is an example of how a "nobody” like me is further marginalized. This woman calls herself an "ardent antiracist practitioner” and yet she doesn’t want to support me by signing my petition because she is worried that it would risk compromising her reputation and credibility. Never mind that she could use a pseudonym instead of her real name if she was really worried about risking her reputation! My suspicion is she didn’t like me naming "white” admins in my petition because she is a white woman.

One of the pillars of white supremacy is perfection. For her to support me, I have to have the perfect campaign. I have to have concrete solutions to the problem of anti-Black racism even though I wasn’t the one who created the problem.

There’s also "respectability politics” , a form of covert white supremacy involved - I’m not respectable because I’m not using my real name in my campaign. I had to explain why to this false ally. I should not have had to. If I had made a name for myself locally or nationally, she wouldn’t have hesitated to sign. The fact that I am a nobody makes me appreciate all of you who have signed my petition thus far!
