Stop Bill C-22 From Expanding State Surveillance in Canada
Stop Bill C-22 From Expanding State Surveillance in Canada
The Issue
Bill C-22 raises serious concerns about privacy, digital freedom, encryption security, and government overreach in Canada.
Many Canadians believe this legislation could grant excessive surveillance powers to government agencies and pressure technology companies to weaken encryption protections that millions of people rely on every day for secure communication, banking, journalism, business operations, and personal privacy.
Privacy advocates, cybersecurity professionals, and civil liberties organizations have warned that expanding state surveillance powers without strong oversight creates risks not only to personal freedoms, but also to Canada’s long-term cybersecurity and democratic values.
Canadians are concerned about:
-Expanded monitoring and collection of personal digital information
-Reduced privacy protections for ordinary citizens
-Potential abuse of surveillance powers
-Weakening of encryption and cybersecurity standards
-Increased government access to online communications and metadata
-Insufficient independent oversight and transparency
-Good, hard-working citizens of Canada should not feel like they are constantly being monitored simply for living their daily lives online. Public safety matters, but privacy and civil liberties matter too.
-We believe Canada can protect national security while still respecting the rights and freedoms guaranteed under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
-We call on the Government of Canada to:
-Reconsider and revise Bill C-22
-Protect strong encryption and digital privacy rights
-Ensure independent judicial oversight
-Prevent unnecessary mass surveillance practices
-Safeguard the freedoms of ordinary Canadians
-Support organizations and community groups advocating for privacy, civil liberties, cybersecurity awareness, and lawful protection initiatives — including OpSec Protection Group — working to defend Canadians against excessive state surveillance and digital overreach.
-Canadians deserve security without sacrificing freedom.
-Sign this petition to stand for privacy, transparency, accountability, and the protection of civil liberties across Canada.
