Stop banning former employees and members - High Altitude Fitness

The Issue

Dear High Altitude Owners and Management,

We, members of the North Lake Tahoe community, are incredibly grateful to have High Altitude Fitness in our small mountain town. We appreciate the large modern space, wide range of equipment, multitude of classes offered, and the time and capital it took to make such a space a reality.  “The gym” has quickly become a center point of our lives here, for its recreational and training opportunities as well as the community fostered within its walls.

We are writing to respectfully request that High Altitude Fitness (1) reconsider its policy of banning former employees (2) offer membership to all currently banned former employees and members.

It is our understanding that HAF employees that are employed for less than three months are banned from the gym for the following 90 days. We are also aware that HAF has permanently banned several former employees and members.

We understand that these policies are business decisions intended to promote employee and member retention. However, they also damage the local climbing and fitness community and its relationship with HAF. These policies deprive us of the opportunity to climb indoors with those who have been banned, limit our ability to train for a sport we all love, create anxiety about being banned in the future, and diminish community morale by creating a culture of exclusion.

We hope to enjoy the company of everyone in our community, promote its growth, and foster mentorship everywhere we climb, train, and recreate. We share your aspirations for HAF’s future as a regional hub for climbers and athletes. We are optimistic that HAF will maintain business practices consistent with that vision.

We thank you for your time and consideration, and for continuing to provide to our community.

Sincerely,

[The undersigned]
