Stop Avon Park High School From Switching to Daily C days
The Issue
Avon Park High School is planning to change the current A/B day schedule to daily “C days,” and many students are frustrated because this decision was made without properly asking the people most affected by it: the students.
Right now, the A/B schedule helps students balance workload, electives, labs, dual enrollment, and specialized classes. Changing to daily C days could seriously disrupt important programs like aerospace classes, Intro to Teaching, and dual enrollment courses that rely on longer class periods, consistent pacing, and organized schedules.
With classes only being 50 minutes on C days that doesn’t give enough time to actually learn in class. at least a quarter of that time is spent settling into class and cleaning and packing up. it would take away time to actually learn in class.
You also must consider that win period is being removed due to this change. Many students utilize this study hall to get done work they may not have time for at home due to things like sports or clubs. Implementing daily C days may cause a decline in students grades.
What makes students even more upset is that there was little to no student feedback collected before discussing this change. No real surveys. No school-wide vote. No meaningful conversation with the students whose education and schedules are directly impacted every day.
Students deserve to have a voice in major scheduling decisions. A schedule affects learning, stress levels, extracurriculars, transportation, jobs, athletics, and overall school experience. Ignoring student opinions on something this important makes many feel unheard.
We are asking Avon Park High School administration to:
Reconsider the switch to daily C days
Survey students before making final decisions
Listen to concerns from programs heavily affected by the change
This petition is not about refusing change just because it’s different. It’s about making sure changes actually benefit students instead of creating unnecessary problems.
