Stop Australia Post from closing the Glenroy Post Office

The issue

We are requesting that Australia Post urgently reconsider their decision to close the Glenroy Post Office.

The Glenroy Post Office provides essential services for our community including postage, parcel delivery, banking, bill paying and passport services. Its closure would have significant consequences for the many local residents who rely on access to these services.

With a higher than average population of people without internet access, high levels of people who speak a language other than English, people with disability and people over 80 and lower than average car ownership and household income in Glenroy, it is critical for people to be able to access these services in their community. Glenroy is also a Major Activity Centre, has a train station and accessible on 4 different bus routes.

AusPost's decision to close the Glenroy Post Shop demonstrates a clear disregard for the needs of the community, particularly small businesses, individuals without internet access, the elderly, and those with disabilities.
Financial elder abuse is already on the rise, and this is in part due to people lacking internet access or the necessary skills to handle banking and financial matters independently or being able to access services in their communities.

This corporate decision will have many negative impacts on the community. It will lead to the loss of local jobs, financial exclusion for vulnerable individuals, a decline in the availability of local services and trade, a decrease in local pride, general inconvenience, and potential security implications.
