James Madison University states that diversity and integrity are among its core values; however, JMU leaders have yet to put a stop to an upcoming anti-trans speech, "The Ideology of Transgenderism," hosted by Young America's Foundation (YAF). The guest speaker, Liz Wheeler, is known for statements against the trans community and denying the insurrection on January 6. Not only has JMU yet to call for an end to this event, but it also funded it. According to the Breeze, "the Student Government Association (SGA) approved $3,000 in contingency funds for YAF to host Wheeler."

As an alumnus, I am appalled to see that my school would give a platform to such hatred. While everyone is entitled to their own views, they are not entitled to blatant disrespect and harm. 

We are calling on President Alger to cancel this event and to ensure the safety and support of our transgender Dukes. 

To the transgender Dukes reading, know that so many of your JMU classmates and alumni love and support you. �️‍⚧️
