Make any person/s guilty of cruelty towards animals face severe punishment.
The Issue
Every day we hear about another dog, cat, horse, elephant, etc. being shot, maimed, tortured or killed in some sort of violent act. As human beings we are capable of a lot of things: both good and bad. Animals such as dogs, cats and other household 'pets' live for one thing: to love and care for the people that have chosen to make a commitment to them. Far too often we have to read of the love these animals being returned with bullets, beatings, cage fights etc. It does not only end with household animals. All around the world wild animals are hunted and slaughtered in the name of sport, if for nothing other than to say they were hunted and slaughtered. Even recently we have heard about the need to hunt and kill wolves to build a pipeline. Michael Vick fought and killed countless dogs and was essentially rewarded with $100 million after serving a minimal sentence. A boy recently put an assault rifle in a German Shepherds mouth and pulled the trigger, and will likely face a minimal punishment. How much longer can we allow such acts of cruelty to go seemingly unpunished? Why are the lives of animals whose sole purpose in live is to love not reciprocated with that love? Do they not deserve justice? We need stricter laws protecting the animals that are often by our side protecting us. People that fight animals for sport should not be able to serve a minimal sentence and then make millions. Cops who purposefully shoot animals should face punishment. People who like to torture animals need to be removed from society because clearly they have no place in it. I call on a law to be passed protecting animals from human cruelty. A law that ensures there will be an actual punishment. I hope you think about your furry best friend when you read this and think about what you would want to happen if the next news story you read about animal cruelty was about your dog, or cat, or other member of your family.
