Stop And Ban Deceptive Medicare Part C (Advantage) Ads

Stop And Ban Deceptive Medicare Part C (Advantage) Ads
The Issue
My Story
My grandpa, Stuart Syms, was one of the most vibrant, kindhearted people I knew. He loved nature, spelunking, foraging for mushrooms, and building things – pizza ovens, hot tubs – anything that let him enjoy the outdoors. He had a passion for coins and a lifelong curiosity that kept him young at heart. But just weeks before his 80th birthday, everything changed.
After Hurricane Helene destroyed his house in Hendersonville, NC, he moved up to Washington, D.C. to be closer to family. He wasn’t feeling well and had developed anemia, but none of us expected the news that came next: he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and Multi-Lineage Leukemia. In what turned out to be the last weeks of his life, he stayed strong and brave despite the pain. He would sit by the TV, often watching the news.
As he watched, though, something kept troubling him: constant ads claiming to offer better Medicare coverage or extra benefits, which we knew were misleading. These Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage) ads made big promises but often hid the limitations and higher out-of-pocket costs that could impact someone like my grandpa, who relied on his Medicare plan.
One day, he looked at me and said, “Eamonn, I know you love politics. Make these ads stop. So others don’t have to live in fear of these and get deceived.”
Sadly, my grandpa passed away soon after, from pneumonia and his cancers. I don’t want other families to see their loved ones deceived in their most vulnerable moments, like he was. Medicare Part C ads target seniors who may not know these ads aren’t always truthful. They promise extra benefits but fail to mention that they often come with hidden costs and coverage limitations that can impact care when it’s needed most.
Why This Petition Matters
Seniors deserve peace of mind and honest information, not exploitation. By signing this petition, you’re helping protect people like my grandpa, who wanted others to live without the fear and confusion these ads cause. Let's honor him by calling on Congress and the FTC to ban or regulate these scam ads, so seniors get the transparency and security they deserve.
