The Issue

We want ALL wastewater to stop reaching the Broad River. But right now there are two known HIGH risk locations: Banks County and Franklin County.

Living in Franklin Springs, Georgia, means enjoying the beauty and tranquility of our natural surroundings. As a community, we've always been proud of the Broad River and the vital role it plays in sustaining the local ecosystem. However, this precious resource is under threat due to plans for a massive wastewater treatment plant designed to dump up to 4 million gallons of wastewater per day into the Broad River.

This isn't just a local issue. Communities all downstream, spanning up to 8 counties and even more, will feel the repercussions. The potential damage to the ecosystem is evident, likely disrupting the balance of nature and threatening the diverse wildlife that calls the Broad River home. Moreover, there are serious concerns regarding the types of industries that this treatment plant will support and what type of waste could potentially end up in our river.

The introduction of such a high volume of wastewater poses significant risks, including increased pollution levels, affecting both aquatic life and human health. It's crucial for our community and those downstream to protect our waterways, ensuring they remain safe, clean, and a source of pride for current and future generations.

The residents of Franklin Springs and surrounding areas need to stand together in opposing this inappropriate development. We must reach out to local officials and demand comprehensive environmental impact reports, transparent communication, and the exploration of alternative solutions that don't involve jeopardizing our river.

Signing this petition is a step toward safeguarding our environment from irreparable harm. Help us preserve the natural beauty and ecological integrity of the Broad River by voicing your concern today. Please sign this petition and ensure our voices are heard before it's too late.
