Stop airlines from implementing standing seats

Stop airlines from implementing standing seats
The Issue
I suffer from a condition known as POTS or Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, where standing up for more than a few seconds at a time can result in fainting. The introduction of standing seats by airlines is not just a minor inconvenience, but a significant barrier that threatens my ability and that of many others like me to travel affordably and safely.
Standing seats in airplanes will directly impact the disabled and chronically ill community, preventing us from using budget airlines effectively. For many, air travel is already fraught with difficulties, given the general lack of accessibility and accommodation. Introducing standing seats will exacerbate these challenges for individuals who struggle to stand, stand for prolonged periods, or endure pain when standing.
The disabled community regularly confronts barriers when flying, from inadequate seating space to insufficient support and services. The proposal of standing seats marks a step backward in the fight for inclusive and accessible transportation. This change does not consider the physical constraints and health risks posed to travelers with disabilities and chronic illnesses.
It's important to remember that disability is diverse. Conditions like POTS are not readily apparent, but their impact is significant and often debilitating. Standing seats threaten not only the safety but also the dignity of disabled passengers.
There are better, more inclusive ways for airlines to increase capacity without compromising the health and safety of passengers. Investing in accessible seating designs, improving flight assistance services, and engaging with the disabled community for solutions are pathways that contribute positively to the evolution of air travel.
We call upon airlines to consider not implementing standing seats on their budget flights. The disabled and chronically ill community should be able to travel without these additional hindrances. Your support in signing this petition can make a decisive difference in promoting a more inclusive transportation system for everyone.
