The Issue

OBJECTIVE:

The goal of this petition is to STOP Home-sharing hospitality businesses from invading our residential spaces. Home-sharing businesses are Bed&Breakfast, AirBnB, Short-Term Rentals or any similar use of a residential home for profit. We are PETITIONING to the CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE to pass legislation against home-sharing businesses in residential area.

BACKGROUND INFO:

Home-sharing businesses are subject to fewer government regulations than hotels and motels. For this reason, B&B, AirBnB and short-rentals businesses attract human trafficking, criminal activities and prostitution which lowers property values and jeopardies Albuquerque residents’ Personal Safety and Quality of Living.  Home-sharing businesses bring an influx of strangers and their unknown activities in proximity to our homes.

Any shady guests of B&B, AirBnB or short-term rentals can connect to electronic devices of our children luring them into dangerous situations. Megan’s law will be ineffective if registered sex offenders are coming from out of town to stay in our neighborhood and then disappear without a trace.  This can happen without the owner’s knowledge. But it is worse when B&B, AirBnB and short-term rentals owners pretend not to see or deliberately facilitate such criminal acts for personal profit.

The presence of B&B. AirBnB and short-term rental businesses in our neighborhoods poses physical and cyber threats to our families while the guests at B&B, AirBnB and short-term rentals enjoy anonymity due to poor laws regulating hospitality businesses in residential areas.

There are Hubs of B&B, AirBnB, short-term rental businesses projected to be opened in Albuquerque this year. A Hub of home-sharing businesses by elusive owners raises many questions. Protect our neighborhoods! Protect our front yards!

As Tax-paying residents of New Mexico, we have the right to oppose Bed&Breakfast. AirBnB, short-term rentals businesses (and similar) in our residential spaces because it is in direct conflict with our well-being, health and safety as a community.

Home-sharing businesses affect the usage of our neighborhood areas such as streets (especially at night), parks, water and sewage services. Home-sharing businesses also pose higher fire hazard and potential violence outbreaks & shooting. These businesses are not equipped at all to manage such emergencies due to poor laws regulating hospitality businesses in residential areas. Hotels have security guards and house detectives, but AirBnB and similar businesses have nothing! No security!

Thank you for reading this petition. Please Join our families, residents, homeowners, schools, churches in this campaign to save our neighborhoods.
