Stop AI Deepfakes in Politics After Trump’s Medbed Video — Accountability Now
The Issue
Over the weekend, former President Donald Trump shared a fabricated AI video of himself promoting a miracle medical device called a “medbed.” The video, styled to look like a Fox News interview with his daughter-in-law Lara Trump, falsely claimed that every American would receive access to futuristic healing technology.
None of it was real.
The video was generated using artificial intelligence and echoed conspiracy theories that have circulated for years in QAnon communities. These theories falsely claim that the U.S. government has hidden alien healing technology from the public and that Trump will someday reveal it to save humanity. This kind of misinformation isn't just fringe or silly. It is dangerous.
Millions of people view these posts. Some will believe them. And when political figures share AI-generated content that blurs the line between fact and fiction, it undermines democracy and public health all at once.
We call on Congress and the Federal Election Commission to:
- Ban the use of AI-generated deepfakes in political campaign materials
- Require clear labeling and disclosure for any AI-generated content shared by political candidates or campaigns
- Enforce penalties for those who knowingly use AI to spread false or misleading political or medical claims
The “medbed” video may sound absurd, but the harm it causes is very real. In an election year, allowing AI-generated misinformation to go unchecked will only increase confusion, distrust, and manipulation.
Voters deserve to know what is real and what is not. The future of our democracy depends on it. Sign this petition to demand urgent regulation before AI deepfakes rewrite our political reality.
