Stop ads on purchased films on streaming services
The Issue
Imagine you have just spent your hard-earned money on a movie to watch in the comfort of your home via services like Prime Video or HBO Max, only to be interrupted multiple times by ads. This is my reality, and likely yours too. It's frustrating to pay for content and still face advertisements, which disrupt the immersive experience we expect when we choose to purchase a film rather than watch it for free.
When streaming services advertise their platforms as a place for ad-free viewing, it’s reasonable for consumers to expect that purchasing movies eliminates these interruptions. Yet, this is not the case, and we're left with a viewing experience peppered with commercials. It feels like an unjust practice to add advertisements to films that viewers have already paid for, and it diminishes the value of what should be a premium, uninterrupted viewing encounter.
According to industry reports, streaming platforms are increasingly incorporating ads, even for paid content. This trend disadvantages consumers who have chosen to pay more for an ad-free experience. Our desire is simple: once a film is purchased, the viewing should be free of ads in order to maintain the integrity and enjoyment of the film.
We urge Prime Video, HBO Max, and other streaming services to honor their commitment to customers by removing ads from purchased movie content. Customers deserve a fulfilling, ad-free viewing experience once they decide to invest in buying a movie through these platforms.
Sign this petition to help us convince these companies that we value an authentic, uninterrupted movie-watching experience. Your voice matters, and together we can make a difference.
