Governor Greg Abbott just called a special legislative session to redraw Texas’s congressional maps — even though redistricting isn’t scheduled again until 2031. There’s only one reason to do it now: to rig the maps and help politicians pick their voters instead of voters picking their leaders.

This mid-decade redistricting scheme is about one thing — holding onto power. It could mean even more gerrymandered districts that dilute the voices of Latino, Black, and Democratic voters across Texas.

Texans have already been through years of unfair maps and voter suppression. We cannot let this happen again.

Redistricting should be done openly, fairly, and only when required by law — not because a political party wants an advantage.
