Update following 12/3 community meeting hosted by Commissioner SORENSEN:

Following an opening statement regarding affordable housing, we heard the developer's lawyer FLUMMOXED ... DOES THEIR LAWYER EVEN KNOW WHAT SHE IS SELLING?

We heard local real estate individuals question why a 680 unit high rise was proposed, which according to them COSTS MUCH MORE TO BUILD than smaller buildings all over the city.   WHY NOT BUILD MANY MORE UNITS AT SAME PRICE ALL OVER THE CITY???

We heard residents ask if the developer has EVER done this before or whether 680 unit high rise is a “crash test dummy”.  We heard they HAVE NOT DONE THIS BEFORE.

WE ARE STILL TRYING TO PROCESS ALL OF THE INCONSISTENCIES BETWEEN THEIR APPLICATION AND WHAT 200+ of your NEIGHBORS heard by RECENTLY RETAINED COUNSEL LAST NIGHT.

Problem

A proposed a 680 unit high-rise development impacting emergency services, utilities and traffic flow in East Fort Lauderdale.  This proposal dwarfs previously rejected projects of MUCH smaller proportions within the City.

City officials were elected based on promises to prevent over-development and burdensome impact on traffic, emergency services and utilities in an already strained infrastructure. Hold them to their promises!

Solution
Stop the commissioners from approving this project. We also call on OUR elected officials to develop city infrastructure, emergency response time and traffic issues prior to entertaining ANY new large scale development.  Notably, the this proposed 680 unit high-rise!
