Stonewall Jackson fought to continue the enslavement of human beings. He stood for hate and racism. That is not what our community values. It is time to speak up and act to make our community a welcoming community for all.
It is time to remove the busts of Stonewall Jackson from the entrance to our neighborhood.
On July 1 Virginia State law goes into effect that gives localities the ability to remove Confederate monuments in their communities. Nationwide and in our community people are paying attention to the racism that surrounds us. It is on us now to remove the confederate monument at the front of our neighborhood.
If VA has recognized the need to take them down why should we keep our statues up?
ACTION STEPS:
1. If you are a resident of Stonewall Manor make sure you have paid your annual dues. This makes you eligible to vote in the Stonewall Manor Community Association (SMCA) annual meetings. There is a motion that is being put forth for the SMCA that would lead to change. The annual meeting was supposed to be May 12, but because of Covid-19 it has been postponed. For eligibility to vote: one must be a neighborhood resident + must have paid $20 in dues to the Treasurer. Additional information can be found in the directory or you can email us with any questions at yfposm@gmail.com.
2. If you would like to be looped in on our continued efforts fill out this form and we will send you emails whenever there is action to be taken or support needed.

4. Speak up, talk to your neighbors, tell your friends. We need to continue the pressure or nothing will ever change.
5. Comment suggestions for changes to the neighborhood name
