The Stone Temple Pilots are one of the most influential and commercially successful bands to come out of the 1990's. The band has had 16 top ten singles on the Billboard rock charts, eight of which peaked at No. 1, and one No. 1 album. Over the years despite their success, they've been derailed by the substance abuse and legal troubles of frontman Scott Weiland. Citing these issues among others, the other members of the band have decided to move on, replacing Scott Weiland with Chester Bennington of the band Linkin Park. While the rest of STP have the right to play with whoever they want to, I feel as if they should change their name out of respect for the music they created with Scott Weiland. Scott co-wrote most of the songs, including many of the band's biggest hits. Continuing with the name Stone Temple Pilots is doing a disservice to the fans and the legacy of the band. It's tantamount to calling Velvet Revolver Guns 'N Roses. So please Dean, Robert, Eric and Chester, continue to make music together, but please call it something else. Stone Temple Pilots is not Stone Temple Pilots without Scott Weiland.
