Replace the Florence, AL confederate statue with Delmar Williams, UNA’s biggest fan.

Replace the Florence, AL confederate statue with Delmar Williams, UNA’s biggest fan.
The Issue
It’s time for the confederate statue in front of the municipal court in downtown Florence, AL to go. It has long stood as a reminder of the atrocities committed by the confederacy. It depicts a confederate soldier with resolve and strength, which ultimately comes across as a glorification.
What would replace it? What could? Well it seems to me there could be but one person that represents what this community is about. One person that could bring all of us together as a city. Delmar Williams.
Delmar Williams is a longtime resident of Florence, AL. You can often find him strolling around town or at any University of North Alabama sporting event, always decked out with his Purple and Gold clothes and helmet. He is the ultimate fan. He is also the ultimate friend. Delmar is always cheerful and never fails to bring a smile to everyone’s face. He represents the love and care that a community should hold. Delmar is what this city needs.
It’s time for that statue to come down, and it’s time to let Delmar Williams represent what it means to be a lion and what it means to be a good person.
