About 2 years ago the Department of Public Safety & Correctional Services started a pet program at the Maryland Correctional Training Center in Hagerstown. The program had a positive impact for both, humans and animals. Because of this program close to 100 dogs and 40 cats have been rescued from surrounding animal shelters or other deplorable situations. Due to the program animals and inmates became resilient and found a new purpose in life. The program has given second chances, and given people and animals the ability to find hope where it was once lost. The program has successfully released inmates and their pets who still continue to thrive in their communities today. They are productive, employed and contributing members of society.

Because of this valuable contribution to society we ask you to reinstate the pet program at the Maryland Correctional Training Center in Hagerstown.
