Statewide No-Chase Policy for Motorcycles in Louisiana

The Issue
High-speed chases involving motorcycles almost always end in severe injury or death — not only for the rider, but for innocent drivers and bystanders. Motorcycles cannot absorb impact the way cars can, and many departments across the country already recognize this by limiting or banning motorcycle pursuits unless a violent felony is involved.
We, the undersigned, are calling for a unified, statewide policy across all 64 parishes in Louisiana that prohibits law enforcement from engaging in high-speed pursuits of motorcycles unless the suspect is involved in a violent felony.
A Louisiana-wide no-chase policy would protect riders, officers, and the public by reducing unnecessary injuries, saving lives, and providing consistency across all parishes.
We urge Louisiana legislators, parish sheriffs, state police, and the Governor’s office to establish a statewide no-pursuit rule for motorcycles except in cases involving violent crimes.
