The Issue
Let us use our collective power to change the world with compassion, courage, and love without limits.
We invite all to sign on in solidarity to demand from our elected representatives in every U.S. state, a strong statement on equal rights protection and due process of law.
MESSAGE
Dear elected representatives,
The United States was founded as a democracy with the goal of ensuring a just and equal society for human flourishing. The U.S. legal community created due process of law, so individuals are ensured fair treatment under the law, including the right to a fair trial, and legal representation. We the signatories of this petition hereby express our deep concern that affirmative action in education and recent decisions by the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade have put measures protecting marginalized communities in jeopardy across the country. We firmly believe it would be crucial to try to get a strong statement on equal rights protection and due process of law in every U.S. state constitution, especially in light of recent decisions made by the U.S. Supreme Court regarding the 14th Amendment. By working together, we can change the world by securing the support of almost two-thirds of your representatives for legislation that would include equal rights protection and due process clause or amendment in your state constitution.
This would be a robust step forward in ensuring the rights for every person in the United States of America, regardless of their background or personal circumstances. Such a measure could strengthen their legal protections, thereby resisting the erosion of rights at a federal level. Our communities are stronger when we address the existing attacks on marginalized communities around the country and decisions by the U.S. Supreme Court that have reduced the scope of important federal protections. If you are looking for ways to get involved as community builders, we urge you to support the judicial reform with a strong statement on equal rights protection and due process of law. In light of this, we respectfully request the following measure to be included with your proposal: The government must not deny equal treatment and due process under the law on account of a person's race, ethnicity, sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, age, religion, creed, socio-economic status, partnership status, marital status, political status, military status, disability, sexual orientation, national origin, alienage, citizenship status, education or any other class protected by City, State, or Federal law.
This groundbreaking move emphasizes the need for fair treatment for all, irrespective of their characteristics. It is an illustrative example of how political leadership can make significant strides toward the goal of inclusivity and social justice in our impacted communities. With this amendment, your state constitution would be expanded to uphold principles of equality, humanity, and dignity for all. By preventing the government from establishing or maintaining the legal, social, or economic inferiority of any class of people, the new provision would serve to further strengthen the core values of equality, liberty, and justice upheld in the Declaration of Independence and Constitution of the United States of America.
This initiative could spark a profound change in civil society by explicitly affirming the equal status of every person, and ensuring equal treatment and protection under the law. However, its success ultimately depends on the actions and leadership of politicians committed to championing and upholding these values in all legislative and policy decisions. Equal rights is already provided by the 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution, but given the current federal issues, the clause or amendment in your state constitution is urgently needed to protect the rights of all U.S. resident in every U.S. state.
This is because it provides an enhanced legal framework to address not only matters of discrimination but also a variety of socio-economic issues at the local level. The proposal, therefore, promises to extend more targeted safeguards to marginalized groups, aligning better with contemporary civil rights standards. As such, its implementation will bolster our fight against systemic injustice, carving a more inclusive path forward. More importantly, it equips politicians with the power to reshape our civil society in more equitable ways, leading to a better representation of all their constituents and respect for our impacted communities.
As our elected representatives, you stand at the intersection of hope and despair. Your words, decisions, and actions have the power to lift a community or let it slide into the shadows. We the signatories of this petition, implore you to strengthen human rights and promote equality for all by working diligently to ensure its implementation. We kindly request you to consider our petition and take tangible actions to speak out for those who have been silenced, and stand up for those who have been cast aside to the margin. Engage all of your constituents, ignite conversations, and foster an environment conducive to positive change. Take your place in the annals of history as the leaders who took a stand, the leaders who dared to make a difference. The call to action is clear: Strengthen human rights and foster equality for all by legislation that will add equal rights protection and due process clause or amendment in your state constitution. Your proposed clause or amendment affords you a unique opportunity to reshape the fabric of our civil society into one of equitable justice. Your action can inspire others, ignite a wave of change, and create a brighter future for all U.S. resident in every U.S. state. Your leadership and dedication are what will make this difference, ensuring that every individual in our civil society feel safe, heard, and secure by the fundamental freedoms we cherish. Stand tall, lead with conviction, and let us redefine our future by building a society of hope together. We invite all of you to join us in this movement for love and justice.
