Statement of IB DP candidates on actions taken by the IBO regarding M24 examination
Statement of IB DP candidates on actions taken by the IBO regarding M24 examination
The Issue
We condemn the inaction and lack of clear communication to candidates regarding the ‘leaks’ during the May 2024 examination session.
This group of students realise that the number of downloads of ‘leaks’ was not insignificant in comparison with the total number of candidates in the examined subjects. We are convinced, that statement of the IBO of time zone cheating being utilised by “very small number” of students is untrue. Furthermore, the IBO does not indicate how they are going to address this issue. We believe that this puts appreciable pressure on the examined candidates, through mechanisms including, but not limited to, the following:
I. Candidates, who respect academic honesty and simultaneously need or want grades which would accurately reflect their ability are left in incertitude whether this will be possible if their grades will be compared to significant number of grades achieved through dishonest practice. We believe that IBO’s indifference puts additional negative pressure onto candidates to utilise malpractice if they want to succeed.
II. Candidates are left to alternative channels of information, as the IBO fails to be one as it fails to provide accurate and current information. This creates superfluous stress on candidates who are in the middle of their examination.
We appeal to the IBO to communicate to the affected candidates clearly what steps are going to be taken and how their examination will be affected. We appeal to the IBO to take such actions, and set grade boundaries in such fashion, so that candidates would receive meaningful grades mirroring their true ability.
