Bring South Carolina's sex ed laws into the 21st century!

The Issue

South Carolina’s sex education law, the Comprehensive Health Education Act (CHEA), hasn’t been updated in 26 years. A study from 2013 showed that 75% of South Carolina school districts are noncompliant with the CHEA and that most textbooks used in South Carolina school districts fall short of providing full and medically-accurate sexual health education. The CHEA needs amending to allow students to make informed choices about their health.

For over two years, Tell Them has been working with SC voters, lawmakers, and organizations to pass reforms that would make sure school districts complied with the current law and that students would receive medically accurate instruction. We’ve already won in the House and now we have less than a month to pass the bill, H.3435, through the Senate. That’s where you come in.

We need your help to pass the bill, H.3435 through the state, which is the final hurdle. Young people who have age-appropriate and accurate information about how their bodies work will be more likely to avoid unintended pregnancies, prevent STIs and make overall healthier decisions for the rest of their lives.

Sign Tell Them’s petition and tell senate education committee members to vote YES on H.3435 so we can move sex ed reforms through the Senate by June 1!
