Close the Murrell, Hunters Home, slave plantation in Tahlequah

The Issue

Hunters Home is the last remaining slave plantation in Oklahoma. It was constructed by Confederate Officer George Murrell, who was a non-Cherokee slaver who used many slaves to profit from the plantation. There are no memorials there to all the black slaves who lost their lives there under the whip or any educational displays condemning slavery.

Hunters Home is owned by the State of Oklahoma with heavy participation of the Cherokee Nation. The Cherokee Nation has a history of being bigoted towards its black freedmen citizens whose ancestors were slaves at this evil place and it’s wrong to exclude them and promote a positive atmosphere of slavery. There are no Freedmen  or blacks that work there.
This Petition demands the closing of the slave plantation or change from celebrating slavery to educating the public on the evils of slavery
