Restore the Solar SREC program in NJ Terminated During Covid Crisis

The Issue

On March 21, Governor Murphy ordered all non-essential businesses to close. At that time, all Solar Panel installations were put on hold. In May, the Governor allowed Solar Installations to begin again. However, during the Covid-19 mandatory shutdown period, the NJ Board of Public Utilities terminated the SREC program. Those of us who were waiting for solar panel installation when the state shut down are no longer going to take advantage of this important initiative. Solar panels are a substantial investment and this SREC program is an incentive program that New Jersey created to make it more affordable for homeowners to purchase solar panels by generating solar power. The fact that the solar panel incentive program known as SREC was terminated during the Covid shutdown is suspect. This decision is not fair or ethical and it must not stand. This petition is calling on the Governor's office or the Office of the Attorney General or the Board of Public Utilities or whoever has the power to restore this program, at least temporarily. The citizens of New Jersey who signed up for solar panels previous to the Covid-19 shutdown under the understanding that they would be a part of the SREC program only to have the program pulled during a pandemic, have been especially affected.
