The Wisconsin Department of Health is proposing to recreate DHS 75 codes that focus on community substance abuse services, more specifically opioid treatment programs. OTP's provide counseling services and life-saving medication such as Methadone, Suboxone, and Vivitrol to assist in opioid withdrawals and cravings that create a lifestyle of recovery.

This will create barriers and interfere with access to treatment. Many of the proposed changes in the code would be devastating to patient care and obtaining providers. One glaring example is a rule that would render physicians with years of experience in working with our patients ineligible for up to one year or more forcing them to acquire specialty certification. Other examples would include placing a government appointed worker in a position to decisions on medication as opposed to medical professionals. Mandating hours of operation for OTP's by being open 365 days each year, and changing the take home privileges requirement which will cause barriers to obtaining take homes so patients are able to live a normal life.

Forty three deaths occur daily due to opioid overdose. Let's not add to this staggering number, but lessen this and increase accessibility to care.
