End balloon releases

End balloon releases
The Issue
Balloons cause many kinds of damage.
Deliberate releases of tens, hundreds or sometimes thousands of balloons are common sights at weddings, graduations, memorials, sporting events and other celebrations. These fleeting feel-good acts inflict long-lasting and potentially deadly consequences on the environment and wildlife.
Every year thousands of animals are injured or killed, both domestic and wild, by the releasing of helium balloons. It can take up to a year for 1 latex balloon to deteriate.
Everyone knows, that what goes up must come down. Unfortunately, when plastics, ribbons and latex come down they are often mistaken for food.
Domestic animals as well as wildlife are all curious and don't hesitate to ingest these balloons.
A growing movement across the U.S. is calling for more policies and laws restricting or eliminating single-use plastics, including balloons. California, Connecticut, Florida, Tennessee and Virginia have all passed laws prohibiting the deliberate release of balloons in order to protect the environment and wildlife. Others, including Maryland, Kentucky and Arizona, are considering similar bans. Let's add Vermont to the list!!
