Daniel Brown started this petition to State College Borough Council

Nittany Village Park is a half-acre neighborhood park located just off Atherton Street at 1331 Old Boalsburg Road in the State College Borough. This park has served generations of families living nearby, and many neighborhood residents have special memories of their children growing up playing here. Throughout the year, the neighborhood dog population is walked through the open green space. While this park is small, it is an integral part of our neighborhood.

A developer, HFL, is requesting Borough Council approval to build a four-story apartment building, a parking lot, and a retaining wall on the park property. The developer’s request is for the Borough to permit a long-term lease of the entire park for the planned development. If approved by the Council, the developer will have the park property rezoned from park to commercial.

The main purpose of this project is for HFL to fulfill an affordable housing requirement, offsetting other larger downtown housing projects. There are other options available to the developer to fulfill this requirement, but this happens to be less expensive. The borough is being asked to consider permanently condemning neighborhood green space to save HFL money at our neighborhood's expense. Please prioritize attending our meeting in the park on April 16th at 4pm.

We encourage the Borough Council to protect our greenspaces and reject the development plan for Nittany Village Park.
