The mandatory minimum laws have been restructured since my son's sentence 14 years ago. Murderers, rapists, and child molesters do not receive sentences of this magnitude. My son has been a model prisoner since his incarceration. He was almost murdered by another prisoner while incarcerated in a level 2 prison in Michigan. His crime was non violent and he has never been associated with any act of violence in his entire lifetime. The prisoners that were sentenced in the past have been all but forgotten. This is a travesty of justice of the highest magnitude. There are still numerous prisoners serving time under the antiquainted laws.
