Stacy's Law. Stop protecting abusers! Create Public Nationwide Domestic Violence Registry!
The Issue
On Aug 8th 2016, Stacy Jo Bartels-Childers became the victim of a horrible act of domestic violence. She suffered in silence, making excuses for why she had horrible migraines, couldn't think clearly, was vomiting uncontrollably and was unable to function doing simple daily tasks such as caring for herself and her ailing mother. She suffered for 19 days until Aug 27th when she was rushed to the hospital as she faded in and out. She remained there for the next 11 days in a coma until Sept 7th 2016, when she passed away. The cause? Blunt force trauma. Stacy's boyfriend of 2 years, Courtney Eugene Millhouse has been charged with her death and is currently in the Pennington County Jail on a 1 million dollar bond. Courtney is someone that Stacy should have been able to trust. This didn't need to happen because if Stacy had known that Courtney had been charged previously with violent assaults or his now apparent well known history among his hometown residents for becoming violent with different women that hes been involved with previously, Stacy would have never started dating him to begin with.
We ask that the proper government officials from state to nationwide level, consider creating a domestic violence registry, much like a sex offender registry - to give people a chance to search for previous acts of domestic violence by someone they may be considering getting romantically involved with, or are already invloved with. Using the same concept as the sex offender registry, Using Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 along with a description of the crime that they have been charged with. If such thing existed already, Stacy and many other victims might still be here. We can save thousands of people from such horrible crimes including death if we create Nationwide registry in which people could search before they made their decision to date somebody. So many lives would be saved. Please consider helping us make the change, not only in Stacy's honor, but for every victim that has suffered at the hands of an abuser. Love isn't supposed to hurt. Stacys children, sister, grandchild, and many friends have been devastated and left to pick up the pieces and try to figure out how to go on without her. This didn't need to happen. RIP Stacy ♡ We've got this. We will fight the battle for you and all other victims of domestic violence, and we will not stop until justice is served and less new victims have more protection and help to become survivors, instead of statistics.
