Start the Austin Cordle Child Protection Act
The Issue
My heart was shattered when my 14-year-old autistic son was ripped from the safety of our home, only to be savagely beaten by a family friend. He was left fighting for his life, enduring a traumatic brain injury and several facial fractures. Now, he battles daily with the repercussions of that horrific day, suffering severe PTSD. The man responsible for this unimaginable attack is awaiting trial on seven felony charges, including attempted murder and kidnapping resulting in severe injury to a minor.
In the aftermath of this tragedy, we find ourselves questioning the system. How can such heinous acts happen unnoticed? How is there no prevention in place to protect the most vulnerable among us—our children? It is from this anguish and anger that we are driven to advocate for a necessary change: the Austin Cordle Child Protection Act.
This proposed legislation aims to create a transparent and accessible registry for individuals who commit violent crimes against children. Our aim is to prevent future atrocities by ensuring that families and communities are aware of potential threats. A child’s safety should never be compromised due to lack of information.
Statistics show that children with disabilities are three times more likely to be victims of violence. These are horrifying figures we can’t ignore anymore. Creating a registry specifically targeting offenders who target children will act as a deterrent and empower communities with the knowledge to protect their vulnerable loved ones.
Esteemed lawmakers and compassionate individuals of our community, I urge you to support this initiative. By backing the Austin Cordle Child Protection Act, you are choosing to be an advocate for change, a protector of innocence, and a voice for those unable to speak for themselves.
Join us in making a stand. Let us ensure no other child experiences the suffering my son has endured. Your signature can be the first step towards sparking this crucial legislative change. Sign this petition and be part of a movement that demands safety and justice for our children.
