As we approach the Texas 85th legislative session, teen mental health is on everyone's radar as the number of adolescents with anxiety and depression has increased dramatically in Texas as in the rest of the country.
Legislators and school administrators MUST look at the very hours we expect teens to be in school. Early start times lead to sleep deprivation and sleep deprivation increases high risk behavior including depression and suicide ideation.
Start School Later Texas continues to inject adolescent sleep into the conversation wherever we can.
Please write your state legislator(s) asking them to address the teen sleep deprivation crisis as a result of too early daily school start times.
