California Landmark Bill Protects Adolescent Sleep

California is positioned to make history in becoming the first state in the country to protect the sleep health of teens. Senate Bill 328 insures that all middle and high schools in the state begin the school day at 8:30 a.m. or later as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the CDC among others.

The bill has passed both state chambers and rests on the governor's desk. Governor Brown has until September 30 to respond to the bill.

As a national all-volunteer non-profit, Start School Later advocate voices are competing with paid lobbyists from a state teacher's union and the state school board association who oppose the bill.

SSL needs your help in urging Governor Brown to sign this bill. The adolescent sleep crisis is a public health issue that local school boards have been unable to make a priority.

Please follow the link and send an email urging Brown to sign the bill. It just takes a moment.

Success in CA will create a positive ripple across the country in making teen health a priority.
