Standing up for Latinos in Action

Standing up for Latinos in Action
The Issue
We, the students, families, and community members of Lee County, respectfully request that the School District reconsider its decision to cancel the Latinos in Action (LIA) program.
Latinos in Action (LIA) is more than just a class—it is a leadership and service-based program that empowers students to become positive role models in their school and community. The program encourages academic achievement, cultural pride, and student engagement through tutoring, mentoring, and service projects.
The recent cancellation of this program due to inclusivity concerns removes an essential space where Latino students feel seen, supported, and motivated to lead. While we understand the importance of inclusive education, we believe that canceling LIA is not the solution. The program has always welcomed all students and helped bridge cultural gaps, not widen them.
We respectfully urge the district to:
• Reconsider the cancellation of the LIA program.
• Work with students, families, and staff to find an inclusive path forward.
• Protect programs that celebrate diversity and promote leadership for all.
Please sign below to show your support for reinstating Latinos in Action in Lee County and ensuring future students continue to benefit from this impactful program.
