Standing in Support of Religious Diversity in Farmington Schools

Standing in Support of Religious Diversity in Farmington Schools
Why this petition matters
Farmington Residents!
We're half-way there!
On November 14th, the Farmington Board of Education, after a first reading of the 2023/2024 school calendar, voted unanimously to “delete” the Jewish holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur AND to not add Diwali, despite overwhelming data in support of the addition. The BOE used a “decision-making chart” to guide their vote but provided no sources for the “data” used within their “decision-making chart”.
With a public outcry, the decision to delete the Jewish holidays has been reversed - thank you! However, Diwali was not added. The Board of Education promised to review adding Diwali within the next few months.
We still need your voices!
Farmington has a significant and robust South-Asian population.
o Approximately 20% of the Farmington student population celebrates Diwali.
o Adding Diwali to the Farmington school calendar has been under discussion for more than 18 months with dozens of students/families addressing the Board during public comment.
o Over 300 families signed their names on a petition last year.
o 100+ individual emails have been sent to the BOE to support adding Diwali.
Farmington residents only! Please sign this petition in support of the varied cultures of a town rich in diversity. Let the Board see just how many residents are in support of a school calendar that respects, values, and enriches the education of our children.
