Standardize Window Tint Laws in Rhode Island
Standardize Window Tint Laws in Rhode Island
The Issue
I am a victim of domestic violence and have spent over $350 on window tint for my car to protect my privacy. Despite this, I feel vulnerable every minute, fearing that someone associated with the person who i have a no-contact order on is watching. This fear is exacerbated by the conflicting laws regarding window tint in Rhode Island.
Currently, vehicle inspections require no tint when being inspected, while the state law allows up to 30% tint. This discrepancy creates confusion and unfairness among vehicle owners who wish to modify their vehicles according to their preferences. Moreover, most SUVs are manufactured with pre-installed tints and are accepted as-is during inspections - a privilege not extended to car owners.
This selective enforcement of the law is not only contradictory but also discriminatory against certain types of vehicles and their owners. It's disheartening to see new cars with modified exhausts and blacked-out or reflective tints on all windows bearing RI plates driving around without any repercussions.
We urge the State Government of Rhode Island to standardize these laws so that they are fair and consistent across all types of vehicles. Let's create an environment where everyone feels safe on our roads - whether it's about privacy or personal preference for vehicle modifications.
Please sign this petition if you believe in fair treatment for all road users in Rhode Island.
